Ceilidh dancing with Gordy is a DJ is a blog which just had to be written because it is one of the most popular questions we are asked – can you do some ceilidh? The simple answer is YES and is actually one of our favourite aspects of a wedding that we LOVE to provide!!

A section of ceilidh dancing can really get that dance floor filled so your wedding reception gets a real buzz of energy and excitement.
Unfortunately many of us may have memories of ceilidh being forced upon us at school, often leaving us feeling uncomfortable, awkward or even bored. Questions we are regularly asked include – will it be lengthy?, will our guests know what to do? , will we get too hot?
To eliminate all these fears and create happy wedding memories, here are our top tips for ceilidh dancing with Gordy is a DJ.
1. It can be a great ice breaker! If some guests don’t know each other, it can help break barriers and encourage social interaction.
2. Gordy is a DJ explains the ceilidh dances to your guests. Worried that they won’t listen or simply not want to take part? We will demonstrate the dances! We do this in a fun and informal manner so it doesn’t matter if you or your guests get the steps wrong as that adds to the enjoyment!
3. We keep it simple. We often start with an easy ceilidh dance first and then progress from there. Even a segment of 15-20 minutes during the evening can be more than enough. Depending on crowd reaction, of course another section can be included later in the evening.
4. Join in yourself! The focus of a wedding day after all, is the wedding couple. When your guests see you enjoying and participating, they will often follow in turn. Young or old, there is no age restriction.
5. Ceilidh dancing is a Scottish tradition. While of course not compulsory, your guests may be travelling from another country to a Scottish wedding and would love to witness and participate in such a tradition. We’ve had French, American and Argentinian guests all wishing to have a go!
