As our previous blogs have been offering advice and support, we thought we would take the chance to highlight the events during the month of June 2017. Five weddings and an anniversary party meant that Gordy Is A DJ was in full flow.
While every event was unique and special for it’s own reasons, we thought we would share our favourite moments of the month.
It all began at the stunning Kincaid House Hotel celebrating the wedding of Claire and Alasdair. A fantastic couple who were so warm and welcoming to us. Their final song wasn’t the traditional Loch Lomond but a beautiful track called “Where I Go” by Mark Knofler. A very different but spectacular way to end their wedding with an encore of 2cellos performing U2’s “With or WIthout You” being done as a surprise by us. The tears of joy were shed not only by the bride but Emma and I got very emotional too! Definitely one we will remember!
A fantastic anniversary party for Lauren and Bryan who had travelled from Australia to celebrate with their family and friends followed. “Needing U” by David Morales was a particular song which got the crowd buzzing – not one that we always play but went down an absolute storm!
The Hogg wedding at the magnificent Inchyra Grange Hotel took us to mid-June. This couple and their guests certainly knew how to party! The smiles on everyone’s faces and the fantastic music choices from Aimee and Stuart meant that our job was not only easy but we had such fun ourselves. Having to play the groom’s version of an Ed Sheeran song that he had pre-recorded was an absolute pleasure and suffice to say, every single person loved it! Receiving a huge compliment from a fellow VOWS winner (videographer Geoff Baxter from “watchthebirdie“) who said that in performing at 600 weddings, he had never seen an introduction quite like ours – that also made our night!
Nicola and Peter had a wedding party as they had recently got married in Lanzarote. It was our first time at Colville Park Country Club in Motherwell and we had another fun evening playing plenty of the guests’ requests. Slips of paper on the tables meant that the requests varied from John Paul Young’s “Love is in the air” to Vengaboys “Boom Boom Boom Boom”! Another great first dance choice was Peter Cetera “Glory of Love”.
Clydebank Town Hall was the next day for Samantha and Nick who loved their dance music. While segments of GBX are often incorporated at our events, we knew that this couple wanted their evening to reflect their personal taste in music. The classic “Bits N Pieces” had to be played twice but with this crowd it wasn’t a problem as they loved their old skool. Scooter, TTF, Nakatomi….to name a few!
Our month finished with returning to another favourite venue – Western House Hotel, Ayr. Maria and Gordon’s wedding reception had a stunning dancefloor and fantastic donut wall supplied by “It’s the Little Things” which we had never seen before. The guests had many requests for us – we would still be there today if we had played them all!! David Gray’s “The One I Love” was a lovely first dance choice and ending the night with “Twist and Shout” was a surprise for our bride and groom and one which delighted them!
More weddings follow in July…………our exciting adventures continue!
