On 20th November 2017 we had the absolute pleasure of attending the VOWS Award final for a third year running, held in the fabulous DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Glasgow. What is a VOWS award I hear you ask?
VOWS stands for “Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier” and the awards celebrate and promote excellence in customer service within the Scottish wedding industry. The programme serves to find, reward and recognise fabulous companies which strive to provide outstanding service and deliver consistently high standards of consumer experience. It is voted for purely by wedding couples or members of the wedding party.
Having won the award in 2016 in the “Best Musicians and Entertainment ” category, we were honoured and privileged to find ourselves in the final again, this time under a differently named section. Alongside our colleagues in the industry, David Munro from DBX events and William Rodger of Diamond Discos, Gordy is a DJ was competing for the title of “Best Wedding DJ”.
As highlighted in the photographs above, this year’s imaginative theme was “Willy Wonka and his chocolate factory”. The attention to detail was second to none and everyone loved the unique setting.
Karen Dunbar was this year’s host and her wit kept everyone laughing throughout the evening. All finalists were informed that this year’s awards had attracted a whopping 10,000 applications and those present were among the final 150!! A HUGE achievement in itself.
Can you spot Gordy is a DJ?? We had the pleasure of sitting among some fantastic wedding suppliers including Cherry on Top, Natalie MacKenzie make-up and Ivory White Bridal Wear. Other suppliers that we regularly work with were also present including View Photography, Emma Gray Photography, Busby Video and the fabulous staff from both Glenskirlie Castle and George Hotel.
Having watched as winners were announced by Karen, we became more nervous and excited at the prospect of our category being next. The moment eventually arrived and the excitement at our table was evident with such lovely support from our fellow nominees. Surely Gordy is a DJ could not win for a second year in a row?
Beyond our wildest dreams, the official announcement was made by head of Scottish Wedding Directory, Chris Phin – the winner of Best Wedding DJ goes to “Gordy is a DJ”.
Astounded, surprised and overwhelmed were just some of the emotions that Emma and I both experienced. Making our way to the stage, we were excited and extremely proud of our achievement as we had such strong competition in our category.
Why did we win? That is something you would need to ask the judges. However, obviously this achievement would not have been possible without our fantastic wedding couples who voted for us – words cannot describe how grateful we are!
We had great fun celebrating our win and partying the night away with our fellow nominees. The entertainment provided by Hireaband was fabulous and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere. Our feet were sore the next day from all the dancing!!
As shown here in this photograph, it meant the world to us that our competitors were happy to come together to help us celebrate our achievement. William and David are genuinely great guys!
